A molecular dynamics study of the aluminosilicate chains structure in Al-rich calcium silicate hydrated (C-S-H) gels A molecular dynamics study of the aluminosilicate chains structure in Al-rich calcium silicate hydrated (C-S-H) gels. Calcium silicate hydrated (C-S-H) gel is the principal binding phase of the cement paste and responsible for its strength. It is basically composed of silicate chains held together with CaO layers, where different guest ions can enter its structure. In particular, the substitution of Al in the silicate chains is expected to play a decisive role for the resulting properties of the cementitious materials. This work explores by means of molecular dynamics simulation the incorporation of aluminium into C-S-H gel. For that purpose we simulate the polymerisation of C-S-H gel in presence of Al atoms and analyse both the connectivity of the (alumino)silicate chains and the position of the aluminium atoms within the structure of C-S-H gel.

Effects of Aluminum Incorporation in Tobermorite Structure on Chloride Diffusion: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study

In this paper, the effects of different aluminum to silicon ratios in silicate chains of calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) are evaluated on the diffusion coefficient of chloride ions by molecular dynamics method. Tobermorite is a crystalline phase that is used for studying C-S-H properties in nano scale, because of its analogous chemical composition to C-S-H. Aluminum incorporation in C-S-H and...

Estimation of the Elastic Properties of Important Calcium Silicate Hydrates in Nano Scale - a Molecular Dynamics Approach

Approximately, 50 to 70 percent of hydration products in hydrated cement paste are polymorphisms of C-S-H gel. It is highly influential in the final properties of hardened cement paste. Distinguishing C-S-H nano-structure significantly leads to determine its macro scale ensemble properties. This paper is dealt with nano-scale modeling. To achieve this, the most important C-S-H compounds, with a...

Calcium aluminates hydration in presence of amorphous SiO2 at temperatures below 90 1C

The hydration behaviour of Ca3Al2O6, Ca12Al14O33 and CaAl2O4 with added amorphous silica at 40, 65 and 90 1C has been studied for periods ranging from 1 to 31 days. In hydrated samples crystalline phases like katoite (Ca3Al2(SiO4)3 x(OH)4x) and gibbsite, Al(OH)3, were identified, likewise amorphous phases like Al(OH)x, calcium silicate hydrates, C–S–H, and calcium aluminosilicate hydrates, C–S–...

Dissipative Particle Dynamics simulation hydrated Nafion EW 1200 as fuel cell membrane in nanoscopic scale

The microphase separation of hydrated perfluorinated sulfonic acid membrane Nafion was investigated using Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD). The nafion as a polymer was modelled by connecting coarse grained beads which corresponds to the hydrophobic backbone of polytetrafluoroethylene and perfluorinated side chains terminated by hydrophilic end particles of sulfonic acid groups [1, 2]. Each f...

Composition-solubility-structure relationships in calcium (alkali) aluminosilicate hydrate (C-(N,K-)A-S-H).

The interplay between the solubility, structure and chemical composition of calcium (alkali) aluminosilicate hydrate (C-(N,K-)A-S-H) equilibrated at 50 °C is investigated in this paper. The tobermorite-like C-(N,K-)A-S-H products are more crystalline in the presence of alkalis, and generally have larger basal spacings at lower Ca/Si ratios. Both Na and K are incorporated into the interlayer spa...
